Bach Flower Essences - Flower Healing Magic For Animals, Pets & Familiars

The Bach Flower Essences formulated by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930s. Here you find the complete range of 38 Bach Flower essences which started with 12 essences, which Dr Edward Bach called "The Twelve Healers". These were Agrimony - Centaury - Cerato - Chicory - Clematis - Gentian - Impatiens - Mimulus - Rock Rose - Scleranthus - Vervain - Water Violet.

Best known today is the Bach Flower Essences Rescue Remedy (Five Flower Remedy, Emergency Essence) which contains Clematis, Cherry Plum, Impatiens, Rock Rose, and Star of Bethlehem

Find out how to give Bach Flower Remedies and the animal problems these essences help overcome.

The range of 38 Bach Flower essences were formulated by Dr. Edward Bach, who was a medical doctor but also formulated the first homeopathic bowel nosodes and who wanted to find a therapy form that would heal the emotional problems that so often led to disease.

Dr. Edward Bach felt that homeopathy lacked something in that it did not move the patient to a higher level of being but merely moved them to a place of non-disease. He felt that flower essences would replace fault (disease) with virtue. Dr. Edward Bach made an essence and took it himself to find out the symptoms it would cover and started with 12 essences, which he called "The Twelve Healers". These were Agrimony - Centaury - Cerato - Chicory - Clematis - Gentian - Impatiens - Mimulus - Rock Rose - Scleranthus - Vervain - Water Violet.

Best known today is the Bach Flower Essences Rescue Remedy (Five Flower Remedy, Emergency Essence) which contains Clematis, Cherry Plum, Impatiens, Rock Rose, and Star of Bethlehem

HOW TO GIVE THE BACH FLOWER ESSENCES

The Bach flower essences are supplied in “stock” bottles and the liquid from these bottles is diluted in various ways before being administered. A treatment bottle may be made up by adding two drops of each chosen essence to a 30 ml. bottle which is then topped up with natural spring water and a teaspoonful of brandy, vegetable glycerine, or cider vinegar as a preservative.

A few drops may be added to water and applied externally, sprayed on and around the animal or its living area, or sprayed on its food. Six drops may be added to a bowl or bucket of water for the animal to drink. A drop may be placed on the nose (this is particularly useful for baby puppies), or drops may be placed direct on the tongue or in the pouch in the side of the lower lip. Drops may also be placed on a tidbit. Drops may be added to lotions and applied to painful areas, or added to water and the animal bathed in it or sponged down with it.

It is impossible to overdose on Bach Flower Essences. For problems such as panic, terror, injury or trauma, acute pain or illness, then the Bach flower remedy may be given frequently (even every few secnds) and/or sprayed around the animal. For chronic or mild conditions, then giving the remedy in the drinking water or one, two or three times a day may suffice. The period of dosing may be as short as five days, or may go on for two to three weeks, possibly longer. The amount given when dosing by mouth should be four to six drops depending on the size of the animal.

Up to six essences may be mixed to make up a treatment bottle, but it is a good idea, where a lot of Bach flower remedies seem to apply to one animal, to either give the most needed first or give one essence to try and get a clearer picture. This one essence could be RESCUE REMEDY (which is made up of five of the Bach flower essences), which may be all that is required; or WILD OAT for where there is chaos (such as conflicting symptoms and behaviours ) and more than six remedies seem to be indicated.

IT IS A GOOD RULE OF THUMB TO GIVE THE SAME REMEDY/IES TO THE OWNER AS TO THE ANIMAL.

Although some physical symptoms are mentioned, it is important to choose remedies on their emotional picture rather than on physical symptoms.

All Bach Flower Essences A - Z

Agrimony

This remedy is often a constitutional one for Irish wolfhounds, which are inclined to be extremely stoical and can be suffering extensive health problems but will still manage to look bright and cheerful and their tail will be wagging. This is a different situation from soldiering on despite pain or illness, like the hound whose heart was tested at a regular session and found to be in such a bad state that it was amazing she could walk, yet she was the coursing champion. That is Oak, but the Agrimony case is the bitch which fell down a cattlegrid and tore her hind legs to ribbons but appeared happy and was wagging her tail and ready to eat before anyone had even noticed the damage. It can be difficult to differentiate between Agrimony and Oak but Agrimony has a lot of torment , restlessness, and worry which is covered up by cheerfulness, and an Agrimony personality will always avoid battles and arguments. Oak personalities are fighters and struggle on no matter what, but are not cheerful and bright about it.

Agrimony is perfect for the dog that is restless, either pacing back and forth, or wandering about, or restless in sleep. It cannot settle: lies down but then is up and wandering about again. Agrimony is also good for dogs that are anxious to please; for sensitive dogs that are upset by humans arguing or shouting. For dogs that are tearing themselves to pieces with skin irritation; the dog that chews its feet down to the bone, that is frantically chewing or tearing at itself. For the dog that is neurotic from abuse.

The virtue of Agrimony is peace of mind.

Aspen

Aspen is the remedy for unknown fears, insecurity, and phobias. Aspen is perfect for dogs that are jumpy and nervous but with no obvious focus for their fears. For dogs that won’t leave the house or refuse to go into a certain area or building. The dog that stares nervously into a corner or appears to “see” something when there is nothing to be seen.

Aspen is good for anxious anticipation, anxiety, inability to go anywhere alone. Avoidance behaviour. Dogs that have always been fearful and jumpy. Aspen is good for the physical conditions that go with fear and anxiety - uncontrollable urination, trembling, diarrhoea, circulatory disorders, etc.

The virtue of Aspen is fearlessness.

Beech

The Beech remedy is for intolerance; physical as well as mental and emotional. So, the dog that suffers allergies to foods or environmental allergens such as pollens; or is intolerant of weather conditions such as heat or cold, as well as the dog that is intolerant of change will benefit from Beech Flower Essence. Always wants everything kept just the same; doesn’t like changes of food, toys, or routine. Won’t accept another animal (or human) joining the household. Oversensitive to sounds and touch; irritable behaviour, always complaining. Snappy and irritable. Dogs that are stiff and can’t relax and that develop arthritis or other joint disorders. The dog that is fussy about food, eating something one day but refusing it the next, having its person cooking up gourmet meals which it then refuses.

The virtue of Beech is sympathy and tolerance.
